My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AVAILABLE
Petey is a small guy who is looking for a permanent position as a lap dog. He is also looking for an adult only home, with just one adult, as he hasn't lived with children and gets possessive of his person. Petey has gotten along in a room with other small dogs running around here at CARA, but in intimate home settings he wants to be the only dog with his person, so no dog siblings for Petey. Petey doesn't bother cats. Petey also needs a low key home without a lot of activity or chaos. He is looking for a very quiet and calm person who just wants a lap friend. Petey is a pretty typical Chihuahua in personality, 7 pounds, neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He uses pee pads here at CARA in his kennel area, but will need time to learn housetraining at his new home.

Please email citizensanimalrescue@gmail.com for an application. A pre-approved application is required. Once your application is approved, we will set up an appointment for you to meet this little guy. If you have any questions please contact 217-799-8858 or 217-655-4353.

Always allow time for decompression with a new pet in a new home, and in time it becomes their new normal. Petey's world has been turned upside down with his owner going into assisted living, shelter life, and everything he knew changing. He needs to learn he is safe.

More about this rescue

Building compassionate communities in East Central Illinois and West Central Indiana is a vitally compelling mission of CARA. We are committed to ending the unnecessary killing of healthy adoptable cats and dogs by providing a safe haven dedicated to the humane treatment of, and compassion for rescued, abandoned and abused animals surrendered to us. Animals in our care, our guests, are never killed. Our guest’s length of stay with us is not determined by a predefined amount of time and are cared for all their natural life. CARA’s ability to take in more guests is determined by our adoptions. As pets are adopted and space opens up, we will take in more. We are dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of our guests by ensuring each one is examined, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and receives medical treatment before they are placed in stable, healthy, and loving homes. To further our mission to create compassionate communities in the counties we serve, we are devoted to reducing pet overpopulation, increasing public awareness related to animal issues, and promoting pet health by providing low-cost spay and neutering services for companion animals in our community. We also work with pet owners to sustain animals in their current home by providing dietary support and consultation to mitigate, where possible, the hardships pet owners face in keeping the animal in their home.
