My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Grottie!

This little calico girl appeared in the woods outside of RBARI in early November, just as the weather started getting cold. She was scared and wouldn't let anyone approach her outdoors, but was eventually able to be trapped and brought inside! We were expecting a TNR, but very quickly found that she was a friendly and sweet albeit nervous young girl. We're not sure where she came from or if she had lived in a home before, but she's given us every indication that she's ready for indoor kitty life!

Grottie was filthy on arrival, covered in fleas, ticks, ringworm lesions and suffering from a bunch of different intestinal parasites she picked up from her time outdoors. After lots of TLC and a couple of months in treatment she's in great shape, was spayed, and has been given a clean bill of health!

Grottie can still be a little shy and likes to spend a lot of her time in covered beds or boxes where she feels safe and secure. As soon as she sees the people she knows best, she'll run right out to greet them and get some cuddles! Once she trusts you, she loves to be held, pet, and even loved to crawl into bed with her foster mom and snuggle up for a nap. Now that she's all healed up she's back at the shelter looking for a home. She enjoys the company of other cats and is going to do great with any family willing to give her a little time to adjust to indoor life and blossom!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
