My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Little Coconut—but my friends call me Coco. 🥥

Not too long ago, my life was very different. I was found on the street after being hit by a car. I was skinny, hurting, and pretty banged up—my tail was broken, my leg fractured, and my hip dislocated. For a while, I lived in the outdoor parking lot of an abandoned restaurant, doing my best to survive and hoping someone kind would notice me.

Even then, I still believed in people. I wagged what I could of my tail. I asked for cuddles. I trusted humans—even when they hadn’t always been kind to me before.

Then everything changed.

A wonderful family found me, took me into their home, and helped me heal. Thanks to them (and some great veterinary care), my tail is fixed, I’m walking well on my injured leg, and I feel stronger every single day. I even run around the yard now, chasing my dog friend Frank—and most of the time, I’m the one who starts the games. I guess I have a lot of joy to make up for.

I’m a very happy, playful girl. I love being pet, and if you stop too soon, I’ll gently swat you with my paw to remind you: “Hey… please continue.” I adore other dogs, I’m learning my manners, and I’m pretty proud of how smart I am. I walk nicely on a leash, I’m potty trained, and I pick things up quickly.

Mostly, though, I just really love life.

I don’t take comfort for granted. Soft beds, full bowls, kind voices, sunny yards—these things still feel magical to me. I want to give that gratitude back every day in the form of cuddles, playtime, loyalty, and love.

I’ve come so far, but what I want most now is a forever home. A place where I can belong, where I can be part of a family, and where I can keep being the happy, affectionate little dog I was always meant to be.

Could you be my someone?
I promise—I’ll appreciate you with my whole heart.

Love,
Coco 💛

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter.

A prospective adopter begins by scheduling a time to meet the dog. We take a walk together to help the dog feel comfortable and to allow for a natural, low-pressure introduction. This is followed by an informal meet-and-greet so the adopter can spend time getting to know the dog.

If there is mutual interest, the adopter completes an adoption application. We then conduct a home visit to ensure the environment is safe, suitable, and stable for the dog. If the application and home visit are approved, we finalize the adoption.

We personally bring the dog to the adopter’s home and provide starter food, toys, and the dog’s medical records. If the adopter has existing dogs, we assist with introductions and, when appropriate, conduct advance or joint walks to help ensure a smooth transition.

For every adoption, we make it absolutely clear that if the placement is not the right fit at any point, the dog must be returned to us—no questions asked. Dogs adopted through our organization are never to be taken to a shelter or rehomed independently. Our priority is always the long-term safety and well-being of the dog.

More about this rescue

My husband Adam and I operate a 501(c)(3) foundation dedicated to animal welfare, with a primary focus on funding affordable and accessible spay and neuter programs. We also work to help stray dogs find safe, stable, and permanent homes. Our organization fosters these dogs, covers their medical care, provides shelter and obedience training, and carefully matches them with appropriate adopters. While our volume is intentionally small—typically placing about 10 dogs per year—we have been committed to this work for over 15 years. This is not a profit-driven endeavor; our sole goal is to ensure each dog is placed in a loving, responsible, and lasting home.
