Melvin is a young beagle mix who we are learning more about every day! He recently went on a home day trip and we learned he is good with kids and would probably do well with another dog and could coexist with cats! He was in the home for approximately 6 hours with no potty accidents. **More on Melvin---he went on another visit for a few days and we learned A LOT! He IS housetrained for sure, will go to the door and wait to go out. He knows some basic commands - sit, wait, down and is very smart and easily trainable. He got a bath and did wonderfully with that. He loves Kongs and fetch and zoomies:) We also learned that he has severe separation anxiety when he can see you but can`t be near you, so probably not best for him to be in an apartment! He can open cupboard doors, jump baby gates, needs tough toys (or he`ll tear them up) and would benefit from a fenced-in yard as he can escape his collar. He is a wonderful dog in many ways, but needs the right family to be active with and train him right from wrong. He is still a dream pup - another head-scratcher as to why he is in a shelter; but he won`t be for long. He`d make someone a fabulous family pet!
