Crane, or possibly Katrina Van Tassel A funny thing happened when I arrived at HSHC as a stray. They thought I was a male and named me Ichabod Crane. After a closer look, they realized I’m a girl! I’m a 10-year-old black-and-white DSH who was never spayed. I felt a little unwell, so I was grateful to be rescued and finally get the medical care I needed. It took me a while to recover. Then, I moved into a foster home. I looked bedraggled in my first photos, but I’m looking sharp now. My foster mom (FM) and foster dad (FD) have been so kind and have let me settle in at my own pace. FM started calling me Katrina Van Tassel, Ichabod Crane’s love interest. After a few days, I felt confident enough to explore! My social skills are great. I’m openly affectionate with the family and their visitors. I climb up the legs of anyone and make biscuits on their chest and shoulders. I’m not a clingy, needy nugget. I can keep myself busy and entertained. If I want cuddles, I’ll find you! I have Emily-Post-approved manners. I let FM trim my nails, use the litterbox without fail, and am friendly and outgoing with everyone. FM says I have two endearing quirks: I make a dainty honking sound to greet you and drool a little when I’m happy. The interviewer lady (IL) didn’t meet me before I moved to my foster home, but she feels I’m very adoptable and ready to be your best friend. 1-13-26

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
