My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chops (ACCT-A-240518) came to ACCT Philly on 01/03/2026 after being found in the Glenwood area. The finder shared that they were unable to keep him but wanted to do the right thing by bringing him to the shelter. At intake, Chops was described as friendly, shy, and playful - clearly a young dog still learning about the world and settling into new surroundings.

Since arriving at the shelter, Chops has shown himself to be a sweet, goofy, and eager-to-learn adolescent. He is polite on leash, enjoys engaging with people once he warms up, and is already showing off some basic training skills like sit while working on down. Though he can be a bit nervous with high-energy dogs and new situations, he does well with calmer canine friends and benefits from gentle guidance. The busy kennel environment can be stressful for him, and staff and volunteers agree he would thrive with a quicker exit into a home that can continue his training and confidence-building.

⭐Behavioral Notes
Playgroup notes 1/5/2026: Steerable, good fence greetings, ears to the side, tail down, avoidant, handler oriented, exit searching. Tolerant of greetings. whining.

Per volunteer 1/04/2025: Chops

Kennel presentation: loose, wiggly, ears pinned back, small/ mid wagging tail. presented at the front of his kennel. Allowed leashing with no issues.

Leash skills: minimal pulling on leash. Loose leash walking next to you, when you stop he sits. Very nice on leash.

Sociability: allowed all handling, did do some lip licking, but was very tolerant. Once he was warmed up to handler he opened up and was a goofy, happy boy. He showed off his tricks of knowing sit and sits patiently. He is learning down. He is a bit snatchy with treats so open palm is best.

Toys and play: n/a

Dog interactions: a little nervous with other dogs who give off a lot of energy. He did really well with Chadwick who was quieter and calmer. Meets went well with both Chadwick and Hefty Jeff. Hefty Jeff did try to mount which made Chops a little nervous and he started to disengage from the meet.

Returning to kennel: no issues returning to kennel.

Recommendations and Considerations: due to being snatchy with treats making experienced gold. If behavior improves with treats can be Gold.

Color: experienced gold

Per volunteer 1/3: He is a dopey boy, like he isn’t quite sure how to function with his big feet/legs. He did great outside within a few minutes after doing some sniffing, he solicited pets and enjoyed chasing toys in the yard. He is a little snatchy with treats, but he already knows sit and he is motivated to learn. He was not mouthy at all. I took him into the volunteer office and there were several people in the room. He seems a little nervous with new people but warmed up very quickly. He even learned down/roll over (video included)! He is a good boy. He is in H row so he is constantly seeing people and dogs walking by and he seems stressed by it (howling/barking) so it would be great to get him a quick exit!
