My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Great news: you can stop scrolling—you’ve found the perfect cat! Say hello to Gouda! Gouda came to his foster parents from the streets of El Sereno, but don’t let his rough start fool you: this big floofy boy is a total lover. Gouda is a squeaker and a squawker who (mostly) patiently waits on his perch for breakfast, sharing encouraging little squawks with his foster mom. If you talk back to him, he’ll happily keep the conversation going, and his lovely green gaze could melt even the hardest of hearts.

Gouda will do just about anything for a treat (creamy Churu, anyone?). He’ll even offer up his tootsies for a nail trim if it means an extra snack. He may look more like a wild creature than a house cat, but he is deeply committed to his comfy indoor life with his people and foster siblings. And while he’s a full-grown cat, make no mistake—Gouda loves to play. He scrabbles around chasing toys, zooming through the house, and wrestling with his foster brother and best buddy Top Banana (KRLA-A-85329), who is also available for adoption.

One of Gouda’s sweetest qualities is how much he adores the babies. He can often be found snuggled up with one (or two… or three!) little foster kittens, happily grooming them, keeping them warm, and soaking up their tiny cuddles. He is a gentle, comforting presence for the youngsters and takes his role as “big floofy uncle” very seriously.

After a day of playing and supervising his kitten crew, Gouda will happily flop beside you on the sofa and grumble his way to sleep. He has made himself quite at home and loves to lounge luxuriously, soaking up pets, chin scritches, and belly rubs.

Gouda “loves the ladies” and does best with female cats or younger males. He likes to be the big man of the house and can feel a bit threatened by other large adult male cats, so a home that suits his preferences will help him thrive.

Now that you’ve found this truly Gouda-est boy, please reach out to his foster family at elserenocats@gmail.com. You won’t regret opening your heart and home to one of the most lovable, talkative, and entertaining cats around.

Additional adoption info

We adopt animals to homes in the Los Angeles area and neighboring counties.

To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, committed homes, we have a screening process before you can adopt a pet from Kitten Rescue. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. First, we ask that you complete our Adoption Questionnaire at kittenrescue.org/cat-adoption-form/. You can complete the form online or you may stop by a weekly adoption event to complete form in person. Second, a home visit or a home delivery of the cat or kitten is also required as part of our adoption process.

The Kitten Rescue adoption fee is $150 for a kitten or cat up to 10 years old, and $100 for each additional kitten or cat to the same household ($250 if you adopt a pair). Cats above 10 years old have a fee reduction of 50%, for an adoption fee of $75 each.

All of our cats have already been:
Spayed or neutered
Vaccinated – with at least one FVRCP vaccination
Treated for fleas
Dewormed
Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus)
Microchipped

More about this rescue

Kitten Rescue is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. We rescue cats and kittens from the streets of Los Angeles and from City Shelter euthanasia. Since our start in 1997, we have grown into one of the largest, most well-respected animal welfare groups in LA.

Kitten Rescue volunteers adopt out over 2,000 cats and kittens into homes every year. We educate the public about responsible pet guardianship, how to care for kittens and cats, and the importance of spaying and neutering. Kitten Rescue makes educational material available via events, print, school presentations and here on our website. We also provide Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) assistance for communities in and around Los Angeles, and teach people how to manage and care for feral cat colonies.
