My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Huey!
Nickname: Huey Lewis and the News
Fun Fact: Huey is perfectly capable of entertaining himself for long stretches of time by gently playing with a tennis ball on his own. He’ll toss it, nudge it, and quietly keep himself amused — a very dignified solo performance.. Huey lets you know exactly when he wants to come back inside — one polite bark for attention and a second if you’re not quick enough to open the door.
Age: Senior
Weight: 70 lbs
Health issues: Huey has some arthritis and mild hip dysplasia
Huey is currently on the following medications and supplements:
Amilextin – given once daily to help manage arthritis pain and support mobility.
Dasuquin with MSM – given once daily to support joint health related to arthritis and mild hip dysplasia.
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) – given twice daily to manage skin sensitivities and allergies.
History: Huey was found as a stray. The owner that his chip came back to said that she had given him away years earlier.
Foster home: Whitewater, WI
Activity level: Low
Friendly with: Adults and respectful older children. The owner to whom the chip came back said she gave him away because he nipped a young child, leaving a mark. We do not know if this was true, or the circumstances, but we disclose this out of an abundance of caution. Huey is also good with other calm, polite dogs and cats. Being an old man, high energy animals who don't respect his space may well be too much.
Sleep style: Huey sleeps in his own bed on the floor, separate from the humans, due to another small dog in the home with poor manners. Occasionally, he may whine at night and want to come upstairs, but he eventually settles and sleeps comfortably in his bed downstairs.
Meals: Huey eats a novel protein dry food diet — 1.5 cups twice daily. Treats are the same food. He enjoys Freezeballs with his food and water frozen in them
Bark-o-meter: 1/10
Shedding meter: 2/10
Fashion: a classic cutaway coat and top hat, or a fedora and cardigan. Think classic '20s menswear.
Walk out song: “Lovely Day" by Bill Withers
Favorite season: Spring — the comfortable temperatures make his exploratory walks more comfortable, and his loyal subjects are more likely to be outside to greet him and admire him. Bonus points for farmers market season, where Huey thoroughly enjoys meeting new people and soaking up attention.
Best feature: Huey’s calm, self-sufficient nature paired with his gentle manners. He’s content to relax near his people or quietly entertain himself without needing constant attention.
Signature Move: Leisurely walks followed by relaxing time near his people — or calmly amusing himself with a tennis ball when the mood strikes.
Loves: Being with his person, snacks, toys, and balls
Bucket list: Learning to use the internet and your credit card. He thinks Amazon would be a super idea! Did you know you can get collars and leashes and cool hats and snacks and balls all in one place?

Huey is a gentle, dignified senior who thrives on routine, calm companionship, and respectful interactions. He forms strong bonds with his people and enjoys being near them, whether on leisurely walks, greeting neighbors, or quietly entertaining himself with a tennis ball. Huey would do best in a peaceful home with adults or older, dog-savvy children who understand his boundaries and appreciate a low-key companion. He does resource guard his food and toys, so you should supervise him with those things. With consistent structure and a little patience, Huey offers unwavering loyalty, excellent manners, and the kind of steady presence that makes a house feel like home.

Neutered
Microchipped
Housebroken
Good on leash, but he likes to meander and assumes you want to follow.
Prefers not to be crated, does spectacularly free roaming the house
UTD on vaccinations

Additional adoption info

Albert's Dog Lounge is a foster-based rescue providing compassionate care to special needs, senior, and hospice dogs.

Our adoption process begins with a completed application. From there, we will review references and vet records. The next step is a home visit with your family. This visit may be in person or virtual.  At that point, if approved, we will set up a meet and greet with available dogs.

All dogs have an adoption fee of $275 for a single dog or $500 for (bonded) pair, unless otherwise noted.

Note: Pairs must be adopted at the same time to get the reduced adoption fee.

-Applications with incomplete information will not be processed.
- All current dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered, up to date on rabies vaccination, up to date on DHLPP, up to date on Heartworm testing and preventative.
- All cats in the home must be spayed or neutered and up to date on a rabies vaccination or wellness exam.
- None of our dogs will be adopted to prospective owners who mislead or fail to provide accurate information on the adoption application and/or the adoption contract. Albert's Dog Lounge reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone.
- You must agree that if you are no longer able to keep your rescue dog for whatever reason, the dog will be returned to Albert's Dog Lounge. The adopter must agree to never attempt to sell or rehome the dog at any point.

Our goal is to place our seniors into permanent, loving homes for the rest of their golden years.

More about this rescue

Albert's Dog Lounge is a foster-based rescue focused on providing loving homes to seniors, special needs, and hospice dogs. We help dogs in need from overcrowded shelters and also from local families who are no longer able to care for their pets.

Albert's Dog Lounge was established in 2017 with the vision to be the stepping stone to a new life for those dogs who are less likely to be rescued, adopted, or at a higher risk for euthanasia.
