My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I'm River!
I'm a 4-month-old puppy who's equal parts silly, smart, and full of energy. I love learning new things and staying busy - my brain and my legs both like to be moving. My big goofy ears are kind of my trademark, and they tend to show exactly how excited I am about... well, pretty much everything.

I'm ready to join someone who wants an active, fun companion to grow up with. Hikes, beach trips, training time, playtime - I'm in. I'm still a puppy, so I'll need guidance and consistency, but I'm eager to learn and excited to take on the world with my future person.

More about this shelter

Established in 1929, Humane Society Silicon Valley (HSSV) offers quality adoptions, affordable spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchipping services, pet care services and education programs to enhance the human-animal bond. HSSV operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are the first organization in the country to meet the guidelines put forth by the Association of Shelter Veterinarians for standards of care for shelter animals: We are the first model shelter.

We are also the first animal community center in the nation to receive Gold LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Our mission is to save lives, keep families together, and create a better future for pets and their people.

Our vision is a world where all animals can thrive, all people experience the magic of the human-animal bond, and all families are able to care for their pets.
