My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Meet Happy Pappy
True to his name, this old fella is a happy guy most of the time—but he’s also very much set in his ways. We believe Happy may do best as an only dog, as he prefers his food and his bed to himself. Once he has a meal, he’s not a fan of anyone taking it, and sharing is not really his thing.

Happy is a Class 5 clinger who loves being underfoot 24/7 and will happily ask for pets and attention whenever he can get them. If he’s fed in a specific room, that quickly becomes his favorite spot—just in case more food magically appears.

We recommend giving Happy a designated “decompress” or safe space. When he feels overwhelmed or grumpy, opening the door to that space helps him reset and settle right down. He’s housetrained as long as you take him out and stay with him.

Happy Pappy is an older gentleman looking for someone who understands that grumpy moments can come with age—and who’s willing to give him a few more good years filled with love, patience, and companionship.

Go meet their pets

We have a weekly adoption fair at Petco in Danville, Va. where we bring some of our dogs and cats. Most are fostered in members' homes. If you see a dog on our web site, please call us and we will make an appointment for you to meet. We make every effort to match the dogs with their prospective homes. Go to http://spcaofpittsco.rescuegroups.org.

More about this rescue

We are a group of dedicated volunteers formed in 2007 to increase adoptions and reduce the kill rate from our local pound. We foster, vet, transfer and love all the dogs that we rescue and make every possible effort to place them in forever loving homes. We also operate a food bank to help keep pets in their homes. We are totally dependent on volunteers and donations from animal lovers like ourselves. We are saving and placing 20-30 dogs a month who would have been euthanized. We need you-Please help us save precious lives.
