Bio: Meet Comet âï¸
We’ve only had Comet for about a day, so these are very preliminary observations, but first impressions matter and Comet has already made a wonderful one.
Comet is a male puppy born August 23, 2025, originally from Alabama. Despite starting life in a warmer climate, he appears to be thoroughly enjoying his introduction to snow and outdoor adventures âï¸
From the start, Comet has shown himself to be a people-lover, soaking up affection and especially gravitating toward children. He wanted to befriend our resident dog right away and seems very socially motivated.
For such a young pup, Comet is off to a strong start with potty training. He has mostly gone outside, with only a couple of small puddle accidents indoors, and he was quiet and dry all night in his kennel. He also loves chewing on bones and keeping himself busy.
Comet is currently fostered in a home with two cats. At this stage, he shows curiosity and a desire to play, which is very typical puppy behavior. We are actively working on appropriate cat manners and boundaries, and he is responding well to redirection.
He is very much a typical young boy puppy, a little clumsy at times and convinced he’s starving again approximately five minutes after every meal . His biggest learning opportunity right now is jumping, but even in just one day he’s already starting to show that he understands it’s not welcome.
Comet is extremely food motivated, which makes training fun and effective. When paired with training treats, he picks up on commands quickly. His recall is impressive for a 4-month-old, he understands “no,” and he is in the beginning stages of leash training.
While Comet is a big boy, he is still very much a puppy and will need a family that understands the importance of consistency, guidance, and continued training to help him grow into the great dog he’s clearly on track to be.
More updates to come as we get to know him, but so far, Comet is off to an excellent start âï¸
