Middy – Black Female, 1 year, 60 lbs.
Meet Middy, a beautiful black Lab with a heart as big as her soulful eyes! At around 1 year old, Middy is the definition of sweet and devoted. She adores her people and happily gives adults her full, undivided attention. Middy is most content curled up at your feet, snuggled beside you on the couch, or stretched out on the floor soaking up love. She’s comfortable around older children (though her experience with infants and toddlers is unknown) and prefers calm companionship over rowdy playtime. Fetch and toys aren’t really her thing, but leisurely walks absolutely are—she’s wonderful on a leash and would thrive in a home where long strolls and side-by-side adventures around town are part of the routine. Overall, Middy is a relaxed, chill girl who simply wants to be near her humans.
Like any young pup, Middy has a few habits she’s still working on. She’s house trained (yay!) but is currently improving her crate training skills and has proven herself to be a bit of an escape artist—whether from a crate or a chain-link fence. Because she’s an athletic jumper who can easily clear 4.5 feet, she’ll need a securely fenced yard with a tall, flat fence (ideally 6 feet or higher), or a home where someone is around most of the time. She does enjoy her dry kibble meals very quickly, and is extremely food motivated, although she has shown no food or toy guarding with other dogs. And fair warning—Middy is not a fan of veggies! So yummy treats should be kept at a minimum.
Middy has limited experience with cats, but when they’re calm and lounging, she shows little to no interest. On walks, squirrels may earn a curious ear perk or two, but she responds well to verbal cues and quickly refocuses. Though she’s already great on a leash, continued practice and training will help her become an even more polished walking companion. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow sidekick who’s happiest simply being by your side, Middy may just be the perfect addition to your family. Apply at www.labrescuefresno.org
