My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Please contact Sally (Ohbassetrescue@yahoo.com) for more information about this pet.

Meet the precious Ms Olive who is looking for a new forever home through no fault of her own. Her former owner unfortunately had a major medical issue and the family had to find her a new home because they had a lot on their plate taking care of their loved one. Olive, 6.5 yrs old,  is a typical basset in many ways except one…she is small for a basset weighing in at only 39 pounds! She is house trained, knows how to use a dog door, and is good with other dogs, cats and kids! Her only downfall is she can be a bit of a basshole at times when she is say on the couch and another dog walks by. She won’t attack but will give them some grumbles, her foster brother however just give her a look like “whatever” and wave a paw in the air and walk away! So she is ok in public with other dogs and will do fine in a home with laid back well adjusted dogs. Olive will require a home with a fence and she is up to date, spayed and chipped. Olive is currently being fostered midway between Toledo and Detroit. Her adoption fee is $300. We adopt to Ohio and bordering states only. Please apply online at ohiobassetrescue.com and anyone approved within 6 months email us at ohbassetrescue@yahoo.com.

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are required to complete and submit an adoption application as the first step in the adoption process. The adoption application can be filled out at OBHR’s Web site at http://www.ohiobassetrescue.org/Appl.html.

OBHR adoption applications will not be processed if the form is not completed in full, or if the application does not contain the signatures of both the applicant and their spouse / significant other. The information provided in the adoption application will help us find the best hound for you and your family. We will check with your veterinarian as to the consistency in the level of care that your current animals receive. We also will check with your landlord (if you rent the property on which you reside) to verify that you are permitted to have an animal at your residence.

Potential adopters will not be permitted to set up a meeting with a rescue dog in a foster home until they have an approved application with Ohio Basset Hound Rescue. Once the potential adopter has an approved application, then arrangements will be made to have them meet with the rescue dog at the foster home.

A minimum donation of – dogs under 1 year $250.00 - for dogs 1 – 8 yrs. old – $200.00 for dogs 8 years and older $100.00 , is required and will be payable at the time of adoption and is not refundable. OBR reserves the right to change the adoption donation without prior notice on the OBR web site or applications.

The adopting family also will be will be required to sign an adoption contract at the time of the adoption. All dogs are spayed/neutered; inoculated (includes rabies, bordatella vaccinations, distemper series combination), heartworm tested and kept on monthly heartworm preventative prior to adoption. This is the basic care that each hound receives. If any additional medical treatment/attention is needed, OBR will provide that to the hound at the direction of our veterinarians (ie. Dental, heartworm treatment for those who test positive, deworming, etc.)

Please note that OBHR Adoption Applications may take 7 – 10 business days to process. Potential adopters will be contacted by a collect telephone call with the status of their application, once the application has been processed and reviewed.

More about this rescue

Ohio Basset Hound Rescue Inc. (OBR) is an all volunteer organization dedicated to helping the homeless hounds of Ohio

Our volunteer network spans to the four corners of Ohio. Our funds come solely through donations and fundraisers. OBR does not have a shelter of its own. Our “shelter” exists through our foster families that open their hearts and homes to a hound in need.

Once these homeless hounds are with OBHR, the dog is then given all necessary medical attention – all vaccinations (including bordatella, rabies & distemper series combination); heartworm test – monthly preventative is given if the dog tests negative, treatment for the disease is given if they test positive; spay/neuter – to prevent more hounds from facing as uncertain of a future; and any other needed medical treatment.

These hounds are then placed in foster care, so long as there is a foster home open and ready to take them in.
Whether it is dinnertime manners, proper behavior techniques, or social housebreaking skills – OBHR foster homes do it all. These homeless hounds remain in foster care or in a boarding kennel (if a foster home is unavailable) until a forever home can be found for them.
