My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

[DogName] is a COURTESY LISTING available for private adoption -- for more information, please contact the owner listed below. DO NOT apply through the GSRA website as this dog and owner are not affiliated with GSRA. Murphy is a sweet 3 year old mix with lots and lots of playful energy. Murphy loves his humans, other same energy / playful dogs, lots of room to run, and playing fetch with balls and Frisbee. He loves long walks / hikes through the woods, smelling plants and where other dogs have been, chewing on chew toys, pulling all the stuffing out of soft toys, going to dog parks to play with other dogs and run around. He is house and crate trained and knows a lot of commands (sit, stay, come, lay down) and has passed his canine good citizen test at teamworks dog training LLC. He has food and skin allergies and has been on special food (royal canine ultamino) and takes an anti-itching medication (apoquel) for the last few years. He requires at least 1-3 hours of walking/ play to wear out his energy. I got Murphy when he was 6 weeks old and he is up to date on all his vaccines. I did a DNA test kit on him when he was a puppy and it said he was 28% pit bull, 20% german shepherd, 9% chow chow, and a small percentage of other breeds like lab. It also said he wasnt predisposed to any health problems. Murphy's dislikes/ issues to be aware of- -Is cautious/ reserved around kids younger than 8.-Resource guards toys / food / water / on rare occasions people from other dogs, can get aggressive if another dog resource guards/ starts a fight. Has never bitten a person or acted aggressive towards any human.-He will bark initially to new house guests when they first walk up to the house or come in ( but interestingly not the mailman or Amazon drivers) but then will get happy and playful.-Will tolerate baths but really hates them.-Shrinks away from toddlers and people with dark skin complexion - dont know why, ever since Ive had him he has never had a bad encounter with anyone and he originally came from a Caucasian family.-Doesnt like loud high pitched noises like smoke detectors on low battery or air fryer alarms. Hasnt ever reacted to fireworks. Murphys ideal home would be a single person or family without very young children, with no dogs or one or two dogs with matching personalities/ energy, more than likely no cats, and a big fenced in yard or farm where he plays lots of fetch and goes on at least a one hour walk every day. Go meet their pets

Once approved, we encourage applicants to visit adoption events to meet potential dogs that could be a match.
Before you fill out the application:
1). We do not adopt to individuals living outside of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia.
2). If the only dog you are interested in has a (CL) after their name, this is a courtesy listing and we do not handle the adoptions of courtesy listings, please contact the person directly.

More about this rescue

Thank you for considering adopting a GSRA dog. We love that you are exploring rescuing a GSD. We firmly believe that the adoption of a dog is not one to be taken lightly. Because of this belief, our adoption process is what some would described as lengthy and can be emotional. If you are looking to take a dog home "tomorrow", unfortunately our organization is not for you.
