My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

** $2,328.50 in pledges for the rescue that pulls **
** EXTENDED! **

Queen ACCT-A-238326 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Queen must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by TUESDAY, DECEMBER 30th at 10AM. Should Queen's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Queen came to ACCT Philly on December 1st after being found roaming the lobby of an apartment building. She has consistently shown herself to be a very sweet, people-friendly girl with a wiggly, goofy personality once she’s out of her kennel. Queen is medium energy, loves treats, and knows cues like sit and paw. While she can be vocal and excited behind barriers or when first exiting her kennel, she softens quickly outside and enjoys running the yard, taking pets, and engaging with her handler. In the shelter environment, Queen has shown dog reactivity, particularly through fences, and remains fixated when meeting other dogs on leash. One volunteer described her as heartbroken, and it’s easy to imagine how much this senior girl would love a home of her own. Due to her length of stay, Queen is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

BEHAVIOR:
Per staff 12/20: Medium energy. Good girl - loves running in yard.

Per volunteer 12/20: Medium energy. Very interested in dogs + people. Pulls.

Per staff 12/19: Easy to leash and was barking while walking until we got outside. She saw The Ab. snowman and stopped, fixated, still And tense body, as we walked she had hackles raised, straining hard on the leash towards him, during the fence meet she had tail slightly high than middle and flagging, tense body, hard eyes, barking both covering teeth and showing teeth at times, front end lowered to ground in a prey bow (not a play bow) quickly movements along the fence with him. It was very cold and windy and he was coughing and hacking so we didn’t proceed more. Easy to return to kennel.

Per volunteer 12/19: Medium energy. Dog reactive, pulls, sweet.

Per staff 12/17: Medium energy. Very good senior gal. Pulls to use RR. Very food motivated. Hard barks in kennel, however once barrier removed, soft + wiggly.

Per staff 12/9: Medium energy. Very sweet, loves treats, easy to walk, good dog.

Per volunteer 12/8: Medium energy. Seems housetrained. Does not solicit pets but seems happy.

Per volunteer 12/8: Medium energy. Sweet dog. Pulls a bit.

Per volunteer 12/7: Medium energy. Barking upon leashing - really sweet. Loves treats, gives paw, seems heartbroken.

Per volunteer 12/7: Queen was alert barking when I approached her kennel. I threw her some treats to the back and slipped my leash in. She approached and allowed me to easily leash her. It was quite busy through the kennels and there were a lot of dogs outside, and she did great walking through and by all of them. Queen knows sit and paw. She has the cutest teeth, ever!!!! She did great for the photoshoot and had no issues with handling, allowing us to put her in a shirt.

Per volunteer 12/6: Medium energy. Thru fence a little tense [towards other dogs]. Barks when taking out. Knows sit + paw. Sweet girl.

Per volunteer 12/6: Medium energy. Barks before being leashed, pulls a bit, seems housetrained.

Per volunteer 12/5: Medium-high energy. Pulls a little, barks for treats, sweet, gave kisses, enjoyed pets.

Per staff 12/5: Brought Queen out for a dog meet with what turned out to be a small dog, Roosky. Found her bright and excited at the front of the kennel, pitter-pattering. Leashed easily, easy exit. Waited at the doors, but barked excitedly for them to open. Once outside, pulled minimally while meandering on the grass. Entered the play yard to wait for the other dog to arrive, where she jumped up excitedly asking for attention. Once Roosky arrived, after a few seconds of sniffing through the fence, she began barking, bowing and hackles up. Not easily distracted. Because she didn't show much reactivity besides this - and because she was vocal just coming out the doors - I wanted to see whether she would escalate without a barrier in between, and so walked her past Roosky at a distance of 5-10 feet. She continually strained at the leash with hackles mostly raised, but stopped barking. I gave her enough slack on the leash to allow her to sniff Roosky's hind, which she did without any attempts to nip, vocalize, etc. She certainly was fixated and straining throughout, however, whatever her intent. No issues returning to kennel.

Per volunteer 12/5: She was alert barking when I approached her kennel and continued barking for leashing with a wiggly prancing body and wagging tail. For leashing, she was moving around a lot so it took a few tries to get her head without looping her paw in. She barked at every door that we got to on the way out and was moderately pulling as she seemed very excited. No more barking once outside. Waited until we got outside to poop and pee. Very treat motivated and takes them gently out of my hand. She sometimes knows sit. Didn’t show interest in toys as she was most interested in the fact that I had treats. Pulls quite a bit on leash and would recommend a harness. Very sweet girl! Took pets all over. She got goofy prances a lot. She knows sit and paw and very treat motivated! No issues returning.

Per staff 12/4: Medium energy. Vocalizes when sees other dogs. Pulls slightly, likes sniffing outside. Indifferent w/ me.

Per staff 12/3:
Kennel Presentation: Laying down when I first approached. Called her name and she got up and came to the front of the kennel. Soft eyes, ears forward, loose body and mid wagging tail.
Leash Skills: She jumped on the kennel door as I started to unlock the door. Tossed a treat to the back, she came back to the door quickly. A little difficult to leash as she was super excited to go out. Mildly pulled on the leash, was barking in excitement as we got to the door to outside.
Sociability: asocial. More interested in sniffing around the yard and pen. I did some consent petting and she walked away after. She would sit and take a treat nicely.
Play: n/a
Dog Interaction: Heard a dog in the pen next to us. Queen started to bark and pace the fence line with hackles up.
Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue.
Color Level: Exp Gold

Per staff 12/1: Very friendly and walks well on a leash
