Meet Buck: A Sweet Companion in Need of a Loving Home
About Buck
Buck is a remarkable dog with a heart as big as his size. Found locked in an electrical substation, it's clear he was deliberately abandoned, a fate he did not deserve. Despite his challenging past, Buck remains a sweet, happy-go-lucky boy who is ready to bring joy to a loving home.
Personality and Behavior
Buck is a gentle giant who has been largely overlooked by shelter visitors, possibly due to his size or his uniquely docked tail. However, those who take the time to get to know him will discover a friendly and well-mannered companion. He is an excellent match for an older couple, as he is not high-energy and refrains from jumping on people, yet he enjoys playing and staying active.
Loves to Play: Buck is a fan of playing chase and adores his stuffies. He always has a toy in his mouth, especially his beloved giraffe toy—now a cherished ball.
Human Interaction: While Buck isn't a typical cuddle dog, he shows affection through his unique "Awhooo!" greeting. He enjoys a good scratch or pet and thrives on human interaction.
Dog Interactions: Buck is generally indifferent or friendly with other dogs. He prefers toys over canine playmates and is content to be himself.
Resource Guarding: He does exhibit some resource guarding, particularly with food and toys, so it's best to be mindful of this trait.
Health and Training
Buck is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative following treatment. He is incredibly intelligent and has been trained in basic commands such as sit, sit/stay, and down. While he is not perfect on a leash, he is manageable and not prone to constant pulling.
Ideal Home
Buck would do well in a home with those who understand his size and resource guarding tendencies. He is curious and loves to explore, often using his nose to investigate new environments. While he hasn't been specifically tested with cats, he is likely to chase them, making a cat-free home preferable. He has shown disinterest in horses but should be monitored around other small animals like ducks or chickens.
A Loving Future
Buck's journey from being code red at the shelter to awaiting a forever home is a testament to his resilience and charm. He deserves a permanent, loving home where he can continue to share his sweet personality and infectious joy. Adopting Buck means gaining a loyal companion with a heart full of love and a spirit of adventure.
If you're ready to welcome an extraordinary dog into your life, consider opening your heart and home to Buck. He is sure to bring endless smiles and unforgettable moments to his new family.
