Adult cat in age only. Professional climber in every other way.
Douglas was named after the Douglas fir, and he takes that responsibility very seriously. Stand still long enough and you will be climbed. Arms, shoulders, backs—if you are vertical, you are fair game.
In spirit, Douglas is a highly committed hanger-on, a full-time personal-space denier, and a firm believer that humans exist to be used as furniture. He perches over shoulders like a fuzzy parrot, drapes himself upside down like a blissed-out sloth, and clings like a monkey who has very intentionally chosen you as his favorite tree. Gravity is merely a suggestion.
This is a cat who loves being carried, worn, and accessorized. Once Douglas finds his spot (almost always on your body), he settles in with loud purrs and complete confidence, dangling in ways that inspire both laughter and mild concern. Physics? Optional. Attachment? Mandatory.
Douglas is bursting with personality, confidence, and joy. He thrives on interaction and engagement and wants to be involved in everything. Not near you—on you. Preferably upside down.
Important Notes from the Fine Print:
Douglas is not for the faint of heart. He is intense with a capital I. This means he may not be the best fit for novice cat owners or homes with young children. Seasoned cat people will recognize the type: when the switch flips, Douglas can go full predator mode—playful, fast, and all-in. He needs humans who understand cat body language, respect boundaries (even if he doesn’t), and can channel his energy appropriately.
Best Fit Home:
Experienced cat guardians
Adults or older teens who understand cats
People who want a highly interactive, clingy, hilarious companion
Anyone who has ever thought, “I wish my cat would climb me like a tree”
If you’ve been searching for a cat who doubles as a shoulder ornament, jungle gym, and daily comedy routine, congratulations. Douglas has found his tree.
And it’s you. Meet him at our adoption partner, PetSmart. The address is 1779 Stone Church Road East, Stoney Creek.
