All that we know is Max was taken to the shelter when he was 2 months old. He has only known the shelter life until he went to his foster home. He lives with 5 dogs and 2 adults since the week of Christmas.
Max was reserved and quiet as expected , adjusting to all of the new things for the first 24 hours. He is a week in and adjusting well to his new routine.
Max will not only steal your heart but steal your blankets , towels , small area rugs or bath mats to carry or whip around. He also does this with toys. Everything is a game. He can also get “mouthy” when he gets overstimulated. Chewing on sleeves or hands. He redirects nicely with a toy that’s appropriate.
Potty Trained: 98%. He is working on longer potty break times. He is going outside after breakfast and dinner and every 3-4 hours and 6 hours overnight.
He is still learning the dog door. He prefers to have a door- man.
Dogs: Max LOVES to play chase and drop & roll. He has learned boundaries when a dog prefers not to engage in his non -stop, in your face excitement for life.
He loves playing fetch (when there is nothing else going on.) He may just carry the ball while investigating the new noise or while watching birds and cars go by. He shares toys without issue.
There’s not much he takes too seriously. Besides his food and treats. Treats are serious business , he anxiously , & politely waits his turn
He’s overall an easy dog/ puppy that is sweet, happy, cuddly and has a good energy level , he loves naps and exercise too .
He is more than happy to follow you around all day , lounge around in bed , on the sofa and loves to watch TV ! (especially basketball or when there is a dog or other animals )
Max will alert you with his deep loud bark when there are new noises.
Car rides are fun for Max. Thunderstorms and fireworks , not so much.
Mr Personality , Max - will melt your heart when he smiles. He will need your help learning his name, he may know it and not want to let us know or he may think it is " leave it ". He will also need more time with basic training , sit & shake.

Our mission at Big Paws K9 Foster House is to establish a secure and nurturing haven for Anatolian Shepherds, Kangal, Great Pyrenees, Akbash and their mixes rescued from shelters, the streets, or unfortunate circumstances. Our dedicated team ensures a transitional environment either at the facility or within a foster home for these dogs until suitable forever homes can be identified for adoption. Throughout their stay with us, we prioritize the well-being of the dogs by affording them dedicated decompression time, compassionate care, and expert guidance. Our commitment extends to active engagement through structured work/play sessions, allowing us to comprehensively evaluate each dog's unique characteristics.
This thorough evaluation process enables us to provide detailed insights to our fosters, adopters, and our partnering rescue organizations. By offering a nuanced understanding of each dog's temperament, behavior, and needs, we aim to facilitate informed decision-making in placing these dogs into loving and appropriate homes.
Committed to education, we also promote spaying/neutering and work to make affordable vetting accessible within our community, championing responsible pet ownership for all.
