Fennec is a 3½-year-old sweetheart who is quietly rebuilding his world—and his heart is ready for a forever home.
When Fennec first came into care, he was emaciated and unwell, but thanks to treatment and lots of TLC, he’s on the road to recovery. At first, his appetite matched what you’d expect from a malnourished pup—big and urgent—but now he eats more gently, nibbling throughout the day, happily finishing meals when hand-fed, and polishing off his food overnight. What he truly craves most, though, isn’t food—it’s people. Fennec thrives on human connection and affection, and staff suspect a bit of shelter blues as he waits for someone to call his own.
This lovely boy is meek, mild, and very submissive in nature. He’s gentle, calm, and well-behaved in his kennel, though he may voice his opinion when other dogs pass by—mostly because he wants attention and love. He has a soft, sensitive soul and a heart full of devotion just waiting to bloom.
Fennec would likely gain confidence in a home with another calm, friendly dog who can show him the ropes and help him feel safe. That said, he could also thrive as an only dog if his people are ready to pour plenty of love, reassurance, and time into him. Obedience classes would be a wonderful way for Fennec to build confidence, learn boundaries, and strengthen his bond with his new family.
Loud noises can startle him, and he may take a little time to warm up to new people—especially men—so a quieter home without too much hustle and bustle would be ideal while he’s in this “re-build” era of his life. Positive, gentle exposure at his pace will help set him up for success.
It’s unknown if Fennec is housebroken, so his journey may feel a bit like raising a puppy—just in a medium-sized body. With patience, consistency, and kindness, he’ll get there.
Fennec is a medium-sized, medium-energy dog who will benefit from daily exercise, routine, and—most importantly—daily snuggle sessions. As he gains weight and confidence, his personality may continue to blossom in beautiful ways.
He may not be the best fit for a first-time dog owner, but for someone with a bit of dog experience and a big heart, Fennec is far from challenging. He is a gentle, highly sensitive, and incredibly loving blank slate—just waiting for a forever home where he can finally feel safe, confident, and cherished. Please complete an adoption application:
Fennec has an appointment to be neutered on January 8th. He will be ready for his forever home after he has recovered from this surgery.
Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families.
