If you see pets listed by a private owner, it means that they’re adoptable through Adopt a Pet’s Rehome program – the safe and reliable way to find a loving new home for your pet.
I adopted Gemma from the Athens Humane Society in April 2025. She is 6 years old.
Due to my current work situation, I am working long hours and am rarely home, and I can no longer give her the time, attention, and engagement she needs.
Ideally, her new home would be with someone who has the time to spend with her daily, playing, walking, and providing companionship. A fenced yard would be strongly preferred so she can safely exercise and burn off energy. She would do best with an owner who understands dog behavior and can manage introductions with other dogs.
She is affectionate, cuddly, playful, energetic, and very people-oriented. She can be dominant and sometimes reactive toward unfamiliar dogs, particularly in high-stimulation settings like dog parks, which I do not recommend. However, she does well with calm, mellow dogs and absolutely loves puppies.
She would thrive in a stable, attentive home where she can receive consistent care, structure, and affection.
