Meet your new Velcro buddy! Introducing Hank, a 1-year-old Hound/Retriever Mix who weighs 49.5 pounds.
This sweet boy is fully house-trained and crate-trained, and Hank's foster is convinced he’d be happy curling up in bed with his person. He gets very excited about being outdoors and loves going for walks. Although a fenced yard isn’t required, it would definitely make his tail wag!
Hank is currently living peacefully with a cat — they already nap near each other and are clearly becoming best friends. He hasn’t had official dog introductions yet, but he seems like he could be dog-friendly with proper intros.
Hank adores people and gets especially excited when he sees children while on walks. Because Hank can jump when he’s happy, he may need some training or supervision around smaller children, so he doesn’t accidentally knock them over.
Toys aren’t Hank's main passion. He’ll play if his human starts the game, but he prefers pets, cuddles, and quality time. He knows "sit," "lie down," and "paw," and he’s working on "spin," "sit pretty," and “off” to help with jumping.
Although Hank has a strong prey drive, he has excellent recall. Even while chasing a bunny, he came right back when called. In the house, he’s extremely polite and hasn’t tried to get into anything he shouldn’t.
Hank's a classic "Velcro dog" who loves being close to his person. He respects boundaries and will settle down when asked. He’s still adjusting to time alone and may cry briefly, but this has already been improving.
Hank would thrive in a calm, quieter home, as loud noises and yelling can make him uneasy. In return, he’ll give you unwavering loyalty, affection, and a best friend who just wants to be near you. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents.
He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
