My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lucy is a 14-year-old Appaloosa mare that came to AGES in May of 2023. She has a metabolic disorder and should not be eating grass and limited sugar intake. She has a history of laminitis.

She came to us with two other horses when, after her owner died, the owner's husband unsuccessfully tried to take care of the horses himself. They all arrived with feet in horrible condition. One of the other two was euthanized, and the other was adopted out after being cared for here for an appropriate time.

Lucy is looking for sponsors to help pay for costs as she lives out the rest of her years at AGES!
To sponsor her (or any of our "forever" horses), go to our website, www.rescuehorses.org, click on the "Donate" button in the upper right, and check the box that says "Make this a monthly donation."

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Application includes a $15 fee which will be credited to your adoption fees at the time of adoption.

2.

Interview

References are checked and AGES may call to ask additional questions of the potential adopter.

3.

Approve Application

Once application is approved, a meet and greet is arranged.

4.

Meet the Pet

AGES works hard at ensuring each adoption is a good match. Adopters may not end up with the same horse they originally applied for.

5.

Sign Adoption Contract

This contract is required for every adoption through AGES. By signing, adopter agrees to provide yearly updates for 5 years.

6.

Pay Fee

Adoption fees vary, depending on the horse. Adopter will be credited the $15 application fee.

7.

Take the Pet Home

Arrange a take home day. AGES is willing to transport for a fee.

Additional adoption info

If for any reason an adopter needs to rehome their horse after the adoption contract period has ended, we always encourage the adopter to contact us to arrange a surrender back to us. This ensures our horses never end up in the slaughter pipeline.

More about this rescue

Our mission from the beginning has been to offer a safe haven for unwanted, abused, or neglected horses: shelter, nutrition, vet and farrier care, and most importantly, unconditional love and attention. Once overall health, well-being and soundness of a horse is accomplished, they are assessed for possible placement and adoption to a qualified owner. 100% of your donations are tax deductible. We are funded completely by donations from the public! We receive no state or federal funding for our rescued horses! We are a no-kill horse shelter!
