My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Just look at that smile. Despite finding himself back at the shelter after five years in a home, through no fault of his own, Zero is already making friends and reminding us what a special dog he is.

Zero comes with something truly valuable: real-life experience in a home. He knows an impressive list of cues, including sit, wait, down, shake, high five, spin, jump, get in, and eat, and he loves having a job to do! He’s incredibly smart, eager to engage, and enjoys structure and routine.

He is very housebroken, crate-trained, and comfortable settling in a home environment. Zero is a sweet dog who forms strong bonds with his people and craves a sense of safety and security. He can be sensitive to loud noises like thunderstorms or fireworks and vet visits (we can't blame him) so he’s looking for a dog-savvy home that understands how to help a dog through those moments with patience and reassurance.

Zero is social with other dogs, enjoys playtime, and has the potential to live with another canine companion with proper introductions. He’s affectionate, fun, and ready to channel his energy into a home that appreciates a smart, devoted dog.

Zero isn’t asking for much — just a steady place to land and someone willing to see the great dog he already is.

More about this shelter

We serve the pets and people in Northern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin. Our mission is clear: To take responsibility for each and every orphaned, abandoned, abused or neglected dog and cat which reaches our doors; to take them in and shelter them; to provide the best medical and physical care possible for them; to nurture them back to health if need be; and finally to place them into warm, loving, adoptive homes where they can enjoy the lives they deserve.
