My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dewey came to us under heartbreaking circumstances. After the passing of his 92-year-old mom, this good boy suddenly found himself without the only home he knew. A kind neighbor brought him to the shelter, so we don’t have much history—but what we have learned tells us everything that really matters.

Dewey is friendly, gentle, and easygoing. He walks beautifully on a leash, enjoys calm companionship, and has the kind of presence that just makes you feel at ease. He’s not demanding or over-the-top—he’s the type of dog who’s happy just being near you, soaking up the comfort of quiet moments and steady love.

So far, Dewey has shown interest in cats and seems polite and curious, and we’re happy to do meet-and-greets with other dogs to help find the best match for him. He’s been nothing but kind and adaptable as he navigates this big change in his life.

Dewey is grieving, but he’s still hopeful. He’s ready for a soft place to land, a leash to walk beside someone again, and a new chapter filled with love. If you’re looking for a sweet soul who already knows how to be a good companion, Dewey is waiting for you. 🐶💙More information? More about this shelter

Marion Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization incorporated in 1967 under ORC 1717. We strive to educate, assist and protect the animals of the Marion area. Since 1986 have operated a shelter to provide a humane environment for homeless animals. In 2011 several generous donors and grants made it possible for a shelter renovation and addition of a separate intake section. MAHS operates a open-admissions shelter with a guilt and fee free surrender policy, to encourage owners who can not properly care or maintain proper living conditions for their pets to do the best thing for the pet. MAHS also provides humane investigations and a spay/neuter voucher program for Marion county.
