My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Pickles! 💚 This sweet 4½-year-old girl came to our Newark facility after her owner sadly passed away. While we don’t know much about her past, we do know that Pickles has lived with other cats before.

Despite such a big change in her life, Pickles has stayed happy, calm, and content—especially when staff and volunteers stop by to give her some love and attention. She’s a gentle soul who’s ready for a fresh start and a new person to call her own.

More about this shelter

The Associated Humane Societies rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.

For over a century we have offered a haven to abused and neglected animals. Founded in 1906, AHS is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our Forked River facility also includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly wildlife, exotic and farm animals, and birds.

The Society is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization and we take pride in our devotion to the thousands of animals that come through our doors looking for a better life.

Please visit our website AHSCares.org for additional information.
