My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jeffrey is a good-natured handsome hunk of purrs looking for his forever home.

Hello, my name is Jeffrey. It rhymes with pet me, so please do! I was born with magic fur that feels like velour; the more you feel it the more I purr. My silky soft coat is the bomb, and it hardly sheds! It's possible I might be part Bombay, but I think I'm more like a cup of good coffee. Well, I'm not so bold, but I'm strong, dark, smooth, mellow, rich, balanced, and a little nutty.

Not only am I very handsome and sweet, I'm a smooth talker with a soft meow. My body is super muscular and sturdy, but big round eyes show my innocence. And my tail, shortened from an injury, is happy and expressive. I'm a good kitty that wants to be part of something bigger, like, maybe your family.

Right now, I just live with one person in a very quiet home. It's okay, but noise and activity don't bother me, and I think I might like to have a furry friend to wrestle with and keep me entertained. Maybe a bigger cat-friendly dog would work. A cat buddy could be fun, but my 14 pounds of solid muscle and social awkwardness might be too much. No matter what, being introduced slowly and properly would be important.

The same goes for kids. I'm good hearted and wouldn't hurt a fly. But I'm still learning that humans don't like play bites and claw paws. Sometimes I just don't know my own strength or instincts. For now, I really enjoy chasing a ribbon on a stick at least once or twice a day. I like the attention and exercise, and it's good for me.

What I really like is food! Ok, I love food! I'm always hungry, but I politely respect routine. My foster mom measures my food to keep me healthy. I do a happy dance, sport a happy tail, and always inspect the scoop or can to make sure it all goes in my bowl. It makes my foster mom laugh, every time. It's a good routine! The other thing I live for is good hands that touch, scratch, rub, massage me anywhere and everywhere...ears, head, neck, belly, feet, and back...I'm your guy!

Truth be told, it might require some patience at first for me to become your guy. Humans taught me early on that they can be scary. Like that good cup of coffee, I'm not bitter. However, I tend to be suspicious of everyone until I feel safe and they have fully earned my trust. (Hint, food is love)! With your consistent kindness, I am sure to blossom into a most loyal and loving companion, grateful to be part of your daily habit.

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best estimates.

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
