My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet tiny 2 y/o Kushi (Bengali translation: Happy)! Kushi was abandoned at an apartment complex and lived in the street for a year before walking right into my life! Kushi lives up to her name and will greet you with ankle hugs when you get home from a long day. She'll be your shadow as you go about your day and steal your lap as much as possible asking for pets or cleaning your hand. She loves meeting new people and hanging out on your shoulder like a Pokemon! Highly treat motivated and has been training well! She does amazing with keeping herself and her litterbox tidy. She is an excellent cat for someone with any level of experience (as long as her boundaries are respected, for this reason should only be homed with older kids). She does fine with ~13 hours of being home alone, as long as she’s got her food and litter box cleaned and gets a few minutes of pets with you. Will do well alone or with an older cat sibling. Take Kushi home and enjoy watching her blep (stick her tongue out) on the regular! She’s loyal, flexible to your schedule, resilient, and one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever fostered.

This cat can be adopted as a single cat or with a calm companion.

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
