My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'd love to introduce you to Mavie, a charming tri-color King Charles Cavalier who is patiently waiting for her forever home. Mavie is four years old, weighs 15 pounds, and is spayed. She is also up-to-date on all her vaccinations and preventatives.

Mavie comes from a commercial breeder and, unfortunately, did not have the best start in life. However, she is an incredibly gentle soul who craves attention and love from her caretakers. When she gets nervous, she appreciates a safe space, which her foster has set up as an open-door crate where she can retreat to whenever she needs some alone time.

This sweet girl is happiest when she's cuddled up with her human under a blanket, or sitting close by on a dog bed. While Mavie isn't quite familiar with walking on a leash in new areas, she is comfortable walking in familiar surroundings. She is also learning how to play with toys and loves gathering up small stuffy toys and keeping them in her safe spots.

Mavie is a low to medium energy dog who enjoys walks once she becomes comfortable on a leash, and she absolutely loves running around a fenced-in yard. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, children, and even babies. Mavie is fully housebroken, follows a regular potty schedule, and travels well in the car. Her gentle demeanor allows her to accompany her human anywhere, although she can become a bit timid in new places.

Mavie recently had dental work done, so she currently requires a wet food diet. She is an extremely loving and affectionate dog, always eager to please her human companions. She listens very well, seeks affection, and can also be content just being by your side.

Mavie is currently residing in Allentown, PA, with her foster family. If you're interested in meeting this sweet little girl, please be prepared to travel to her location.

Thank you for considering giving Mavie the loving home she deserves!

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
