My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For inquiries email april@compactcaninerescue.org Fee: $800 Location: Newport News, VA MEET SCOTLAND! Scotland is new to the Rescue. She is a 9 month old purebred miniature schnauzer. She was an owner surrender due to divorce. She just arrived and we are learning her personality. We do know she has lived with school aged children, is respectful of the resident dogs in the Foster home, and working on her potty manners. She can be a little barky but overall she is a very sweet girl. She does have a lot of puppy energy! She will need an active household. She has also been noted to have some anxiety. She will be best served in a home with another dog and/or someone home during the day. She will also require manners training within 6 months of adoption to finalize her adoption. A fenced yard will be required for her adoption as well. She has seen the vet and been given a clean bill of health. She will need a vaccine booster and spay in the near future. Her spay is scheduled for Jan 29th. She will be ready for adoption after healing from surgery for a few days. Please visit our website www.compactcaninerescue.org to learn more about this amazing pet and see other adoptable dogs.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

After submission we check with the vet you referenced to obtain your pets medical history and the adopters compliance with recommendations

2.

Interview

Once you pass the vet. reference, we schedule an interview to find out more about you, the applicant, and the type of dog you want to adopt

3.

Home Check

If the phone interview is passed we then visit your home to see how one of our dogs reacts to the family, other pets and the environment.

4.

Approve Application

We have a committee to whom the applications are presented. They read over the entire packet and either approve or deny the app

5.

Meet the Pet

Once an adopter is approved they can call the foster parents and find out more about our dogs. If they match we set up a Meeting

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

If one of our dogs is a good fit, then at the meet an adoption can take place during the meet and greet

7.

Pay Fee

when contracts are signed, the fee is collected

More about this rescue

The founding members of our rescue are dog lovers. Especially, small dogs! When we saw the need to help so many small dogs of various breeds and mixes, we collaborated to form a non-breed-specific rescue to help as many small dogs as possible. Our mission is to help dogs who weigh up to 20 pounds.

Adoption is not first come first served. We match our dogs to potential owners to ensure the best outcomes for all involved! Our philosophy is: Rescue - Rehabilitate - Rejoice!

Our mission statement is as follows:
Compact Canine Rescue is a network of volunteers committed to rehabilitating small dogs and rehoming them with forever families on the east coast of the United States. We are passionate about promoting responsible pet parenting and educating the public on what makes dogs healthy and happy.
