Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Sunshine 🌞 — a beautiful 3-year-old calico with a heart as warm as her name!
Sunshine is the definition of friendly. From the moment you meet her, she’s ready to greet you with soft head bumps, gentle purrs, and her adorably chirpy little meow that sounds like she’s saying hello. She loves being around people and will happily keep you company.
Her calico coat is as vibrant and unique as her personality, and her bright, expressive eyes seem to sparkle with curiosity and affection. Sunshine is the kind of cat who truly enjoys human companionship and will quickly become your little shadow, following you from room to room just to be near you. She is not a fan of other cats as they 'steal her shine,' so to speak; Sunshine wants you all to herself and doesn't like to share lol.
She is also spayed and up to date on her core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. If you’re looking for a sweet, social, and loving companion who will fill your home with warmth, Sunshine is ready to light up your life. Come meet her and see for yourself why we love this happy girl! 🐾💛 Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
