Adoption Criteria (Adult)

1. Texas Adopters, and out of state adopters will be considered on a case by case basis.

2. Adoption Fee: $375.00 (includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test).

3. We only adopt out companion dogs that will be considered part of the family and will be primarily inside dogs.

4. Preference is for applicants to have some knowledge and experience with the Great Pyrenees breed. Specific information about the breed will be shared during the interview/virtual home visit.

5. Secure and visible fencing is required. In a very few cases, fencing options will be considered based on the specific needs of a particular dog.

6. Preference is for applicants willing to provide "positive" training to adopted dogs.

7. All current pets in adoptive homes should be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccines.

Baby's Foster home paw parents wrote this description about her: 'Thank you for stopping by Baby’s profile! Baby is a 4-year-old spayed Great Pyrenees with a gentle, low-to-medium energy level. She is gracious, delightful, calm, and healthy. Best of all, she is already fully potty, crate, and house trained. She is now ready to find a place she can truly call her 'forever home.' Baby is absolutely wonderful with people and has mastered the art of winning hearts. When playing in the backyard, she’ll throw herself onto the grass to show her belly, happily rubbing herself into the ground until she’s covered in debris. I’m convinced she does this on purpose—just to earn a few extra pets while you help clean the grass off her! She is incredibly gentle when handled during mealtimes or when receiving treats. While she can be a bit aloof with strangers, she warms up beautifully with slow, patient introductions to new relatives and friends. Regarding other dogs, Baby prefers a gradual introduction. She is a bit of a 'Queen' and likes other dogs to adjust to her pace, but she does get there eventually! She currently shares her home with an Australian Shepherd and two cats. While she prefers to be fed separately during mealtime, she does great with her housemates in every other way. Thanks for reading to the end! In summary, Baby is a wonderful companion who can be a bit picky about her 'roommates,' but she is deeply committed to her family. She is the perfect partner for a pleasant post-dinner stroll, a relaxing movie night, or simply acting as a big, fluffy pillow for you to sink into.'

More about this rescue

Great Pyrenees Advocates of Texas (GPAT) is a 501 c3 non-profit rescue organization based in Houston, Texas and serves the entire state of Texas.

Our group was organized to respond to the tremendous numbers of at-risk Great Pyrenees and Great Pyrenees mixes that have been abandoned in shelters, dumped on the streets or surrendered by their owners.

We are also involved in community outreach and education about the Great Pyrenees as a long term solution to minimize the huge homeless population of this regal breed of dogs in need.
