My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Daisy Daisy is a sweet, sensitive girl who has been through more than her fair share and is ready for a soft place to land. She came from a difficult situation in Georgia where she was pregnant, raised her puppies, and then—through no fault of her own—was left behind. Thankfully, now Daisy is safe in foster care.

Daisy is about 2 years old and weighs just under 25 pounds. She appears to be mostly Dachshund, though her exact mix is a mystery. Emotionally, Daisy is still learning that the world can be kind. Unlike many fearful dogs who choose “flight,” Daisy tends to “freeze.” When she’s scared, she becomes very still, hoping to disappear—often burrowing into couch cushions or blankets. She arrived in New Jersey just before a major snowstorm, and the sights, sounds, and snow have been overwhelming for her. Leashes currently frighten her, so her foster is carrying her outside to a shoveled deck where she stands quietly and is slowly learning to go potty.

Despite her fear, it’s clear Daisy desperately wants connection. She choses the couch spot right next to her foster and, once placed there, becomes pure velcro. She snuggles under the covers, rests her head on an arm, and occasionally gathers the courage to lift her head and sniff—small but meaningful steps of trust. When picked up, her body may go stiff at first, but once settled, she just wants to be close.

Daisy does well in her crate with no accidents. She loves her food, takes treats gently, and this has been a great tool in helping her learn to trust. She has done well with other dogs and has shown no interest in cats. A calm, quiet home is essential for Daisy, with a securely fenced yard. Another confident, gentle dog in the home could be a wonderful bonus to help show her the ropes.

This is a dog who will truly blossom with patience, routine, and kindness. Daisy is not broken—just scared—and she is already showing how much love she has to give once she feels safe.

If you’d like to be the person who helps Daisy continue her journey and finally feel at home, please fill out an application at www.bcaaofnj.org.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with the applicant filling out an adoption application for the pet they are interested in. When they have completed and submitted the application, the screening process is started, which consists of a vet check, phone interview and home visit. Once all the steps are completed, we determine, by our findings, if they are approved, and if so, then they are allowed to adopt from our organization. The final step is they must complete the adoption contract, along with the donation for the animal, which goes into our medical fund to defray their medical costs. All of our animals are spayed and neutered, up to date on all their shots, including rabies, they are parasite free and on heartworm preventative.
