My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Basic Information

Neku is a 12-year-old neutered male cat who lived with his previous owner for approximately five years. He previously lived with two adults and other cats and has only ever lived indoors.

Personality & Behavior

Neku is a shy but gentle senior cat who needs time to feel comfortable in new environments. When given space and patience, he warms up and becomes affectionate and social on his own terms. He enjoys spending quality time with his people while maintaining his independence. Neku will engage in play and interaction when he chooses and is described as calm and easy to handle. He has no known bite or scratch history and tolerated all handling and care tasks in the shelter.

Social History

Strangers: Shy initially but becomes affectionate and social with time.

Children: No experience with children.

Other Cats: Used to living with other cats and can be friendly and outgoing once warmed up.

Dogs: No experience with dogs.

Activity & Temperament

Energy Level: Medium

Behavior Observed: Calm, tolerant of handling, and cooperative during intake and medical procedures.

Behavior Determination: Pending (no concerning behaviors observed).

For a New Family to Know

Neku would do best in a calm, patient home that understands senior cats and allows him to adjust at his own pace. He enjoys Friskies food and treats and is not particular about litter type or litter box style. He values companionship but prefers to interact on his own terms. A quiet environment with gentle handling will help him thrive.

Overall Health

A veterinary exam noted severe dental disease with diffuse gingivitis, calculus, ulcerative lesions near the maxillary canines, missing incisors, and gingival recession. He also has bilateral otitis, with thick crusted debris in both ear canals (rule out ear mites versus other causes). Mild bilateral iris atrophy was noted. His prognosis is good with continued care. Neku is already neutered and will require a dental procedure once placed.

Note from staff

Neku is a gentle senior who may be shy at first but warms up with patience and kindness. Once comfortable, he's a calm, affectionate companion who enjoys quiet company and relaxed play on his own terms. Neku would thrive in a peaceful home where he can settle in at his own pace and share his sweet, steady presence.
