My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET SPANKY - FOSTER TO ADOPT Spanky has one of those stories that truly rips your heart out. He has spent the vast majority of his life at an animal control facility in a very rural county in West Virginia. Spanky went to animal control when he was just a puppy. He lived his whole life there until just yesterday in an outdoor kennel. Spanky’s tale is even more heartbreaking. In February 2025, they was unprecedented historic flooding in the state of West Virginia. Spanky, along with his shelter friends were left in their outdoor kennels which immediately began to flood under the heavy rainfall and overflowing creeks and rivers. Thankfully, an incredibly kind and brave volunteer rode on his kayak to the facility to let the dogs out. What he found was ear piercing overwhelming screams of panic from the dogs. They tried to climb on top of their dog houses to escape their rising floodwaters. Thanks to the bravery of this incredible human being, the dogs were saved. The floodwaters receded and the dogs were returned to their outdoor kennels. Spanky took all of this in stride. He is truly one of the sweetest boys. He is dog friendly, ignored the cat during a cat test, and loves every human he meets. Sadly, Spanky’s Foster experienced an a medical emergency and was unable to take him so he is in a very temporary foster and he needs a longer-term foster home so he can decompress and learn what it is to be loved. He so deserves the warmth and comfort of a home. If any dog deserves to cuddle on a sofa, it is most certainly Spanky. Sadly, there are so many poverty stricken counties in the country. They barely have animal control services, so we certainly do not fault the facility. Every now and then, a very special dog comes along, and Spanky is one of those very special dogs. Spanky is a year and a half old, he is a heeler terrier mix who is just simply precious. There are a handful of incredible women who fight day in and day out to save these dogs. To those ladies, we are eternally grateful. We have the deepest appreciation for the most incredible transport coordinator and his army of volunteer drivers who get these dogs to us safely. More about this rescue

Noah's Ark Rescue Project and Sanctuary (NARPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare organization which is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, as well as educating the public on important issues, and implementing low cost vaccination and sterilization clinics. Our goal is to address vital contributing factors which lead to the overpopulation of domesticated pets. Overbreeding and overpopulation directly affects the number of animals who find themselves in shelters and in need of rescuing. NARPS is currently operating mainly as a foster based program, with ambitions to eventually have a facility to house for our rescues. We are not a breed or species specific rescue, At NARPS, big & small, hooves & paws, we rescue them all!
