My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Weir 🎶
Yes, that Weir. I’m a black cat named after Bob Weir, and I bring strong rhythm-guitar energy to everyday life. I’m steady, soulful, and very good at hanging in the pocket. I don’t need to be loud to be noticed — I just show up, stay close, and make everything feel a little more grounded.

I’m sweet, affectionate, and happiest when I’m near my people, quietly keeping the beat. I like gentle pets, relaxed evenings, and being part of the moment without stealing the spotlight. Think cozy couch, good company, and a song you didn’t realize you loved until it was already playing.

If you’re looking for a calm, loving companion with good vibes and a solid groove, I’m ready to jam with you. 🖤🐾🎸An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. More about this shelter

At DeKalb Humane Society, we are passionate about finding forever homes for the pets in our care. Whether they are cats, dogs, or other furry friends, our mission is to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment.

We also believe in the importance of education about responsible pet ownership. We strive to educate our community about pet welfare, the benefits of spaying/neutering, and the prevention of animal abuse and neglect.

By adopting a pet from us, you are not only gaining a lifetime companion, but you are also contributing to our cause and helping us raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these innocent animals.

The DeKalb Humane Society filed for our Certificate of Incorporation on December 23, 1975 and we were granted 501(c)3 status in March of 1976. We are committed to being a no-kill shelter and serving the DeKalb County area.
