Piper is a 6-year-old mixed breed girl who has known heartbreak, but somehow never lost her joy. Found as a stray puppy, she waited months in a New Jersey shelter before being adopted into a home she thought would be forever. Nearly four years later, everything changed when her owner passed away, and Piper was returned to the shelter in November 2024 -- confused, grieving, and alone once again.
With the shelter preparing to close for renovations and all animals needing placement by the end of January, Piper had nowhere to go. We couldn’t let her story end there and took her in.
Despite all she’s been through, Piper greets the world with sparkling eyes and a huge smile. She adores people, loves walks, car rides, and her toys, and is completely house trained. She would thrive in a home with older children and as the only dog. With slow proper introductions, she could do well with dog-savvy cats.
Medically, Piper had a right hind limb CCL rupture that has been surgically repaired at the previous shelter. It is likely she may require additional surgeries in the future, so potential adopters should be prepared for the associated veterinary care and costs. What Piper offers in return is immeasurable -- unwavering loyalty, endless love, and a truly special bond.
Piper has already lost so much. All she’s asking for is one last chance at forever.
