Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Seal, a sweet black kitten who is just beginning to discover how wonderful the world can be 🖤
Only five months old, Seal came to the shelter feeling very shy and unsure. With patience and kindness, he’s started to come out of his shell and show his gentle, curious nature. He’s learned that head pets are actually pretty great, and he’s becoming more confident each day as he observes and explores his surroundings.
Seal is the kind of kitten who will thrive with a loving adopter willing to let him set the pace and continue building his trust. In return, you’ll get to watch a timid little kitten blossom into a playful, affectionate companion—a truly special experience.
He is also neutered and up to date on his core vaccinations and monthly preventatives. If you’re looking for a kitten to grow with, encourage, and love, Seal may be the perfect match. He’s ready to find a forever home where he can keep gaining confidence and curiosity, one soft head pet at a time. 🐾 Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!
ADOPTION APPLICATION: All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.

More about this shelter
We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
