My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Maxwell is a handsome and affectionate 7-year-old German Shepherd who weighs about 80 pounds and has been fully vetted. He arrived at the shelter in October 2025 when his owner was arrested and Maxwell had nowhere else to go. Despite this tough start, Maxwell is a friendly and generous soul. He’s great with kids and absolutely LOVES to play Fetch—really, he ALWAYS wants to play ball.

Here's what a shelter employee said about Max, " Max is fixated on balls. He locks in on them and if he sees one, there’s nothing else that will interest him. Even just carrying it around in his mouth makes him happy, but he prefers to play Fetch. He’s an expert retriever and can literally be happy chasing the ball for more than an hour."

Maxwell is housebroken and walks nicely on a leash, making him a reliable and easygoing companion for daily adventures. He spent some time in a foster home where he was a perfect gentleman.

Maxwell also gets along well with the other dogs he has met at the shelter. And his goofy, enthusiastic personality is sure to bring smiles to any family. Maxwell would thrive in an active home where daily exercise, playtime, and plenty of cuddles are part of the routine.

If you'd like to meet Maxwell in person when he arrives, just fill out an adoption application and be sure to mention his name, MAXWELL SCAS!

More about this rescue

Eleventh Hour Rescue, based in Morris County NJ, is a primarily volunteer run, no-kill rescue that saves animals on Death Row from high-kill shelters. Eleventh Hour Rescue dogs and cats are cared for by our compassionate and dedicated team of volunteers and staff. Whether in foster homes, our kennel or adoption centers, each dog and cat receives a clean and safe living environment, fresh food and water, medical attention, and most importantly an abundance of love and care until they find their FURever homes. We are dedicated to educating the community about the animal over-population problem and the importance of spaying and neutering. All funds go directly to supporting our animals and their needs. We are an eligible charity under federal code 501(c)3 founded in 2004.
