Shameless plug for my good boy friend, "Co", or as we call him "Rocco Cocoa";
- great in car
- loves to snuggle
- loves to play!
- starting to really love snow (but gets cold very quickly, so short outings)
- whiney when alone, but we are working on short stints of crate time with us in the house (he loves Kongs stuffed with PB), baby step progress
- not overly destructive but would not trust unsupervised for long 😅
- can go the entire night without a potty break!
- only barks when he meets people at first, settles quickly. Doesn't seem to care if it's a man or a woman
- FOOD MOTIVATED!!!!
- has a typical puppy attention span so while puzzle toys are good in theory, he hasn't caught on 😝
Our cat thinks he has too much puppy energy so hasn't wanted to interact with him at all but I think with a dog savy cat, he would be fine!

1. Visit our shelter and choose the animal that you would like to adopt.
Please be aware that the adoption process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the information we need to cover with you and the number of pets going home at the same time. We know this is a time commitment, but your new pet will appreciate it!
2. Fill out an adoption profile. At PMHS, we use a profile and interview process to ensure that each animal adopted will be matched with the most compatible new owner(s). Once your profile has been reviewed, our adoption counselors will discuss with you any medical or behavioral information relevant to the animal you chose and process your adoption application. Every dog or cat that is adopted from PMHS is up to date with required vaccinations and microchipped.
3. Pay fee.
3. Congratulations! You are now ready to go home with your new pet!

After 35 years, our organization is now officially known as Pope Memorial Humane Society. Though we have a new name, logo, and facility, it is important to keep in mind that we are the same organization at our core. Our staff, volunteers, and operations remain the same, as does our unfailing commitment to saving the lives of animals in need. We will continue to serve Strafford County and the surrounding areas of New Hampshire and southern Maine with the same dedication. Though we are proud of the growth and impact we have made in the last 35 years as Cocheco Valley Humane Society, we look forward to this new chapter in our organization’s story.
