*Please note: Ellie’s house-training status is currently unknown as she is still transitioning from the shelter into foster care. Petfinder does not provide an “unknown” option, so this field may not accurately reflect her current status. We will update when we get her to Colorado and into a foster home.*
Meet Ellie! Ellie is a sweet and gentle, 2–3 year old, 25 lb Cattle Dog / Beagle mix who is now headed to Colorado in search of the forever home she so deeply deserves.
Ellie’s story is heartbreaking but, thankfully, has a hopeful turn. She was found abandoned in an apartment in rural Texas after her owner was evicted and left her behind. Despite this, Ellie has remained incredibly loving and trusting. She is friendly, soft-natured, and has a calm, affectionate presence that makes you fall in love with her quickly.
Ellie is wonderful with other dogs and even did great in the shelter environment. The photo of her with another dog was taken at the small rural shelter where she landed. Because the shelter is so limited on space, dogs are often housed together, and Ellie was chosen to share a kennel thanks to her easygoing, social nature. The dog she shared space with was only 15 lbs, which also gives a great size reference for how nicely petite Ellie is.
Ellie is also cat-friendly and was found living peacefully with a cat in the apartment.
Ellie is now safe and has her ticket to Colorado, ready to start a brand-new chapter with a family who will cherish her and never abandon her again. She is sweet, gentle, friendly, and so deserving of stability and love. Ellie would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loyal, kind-hearted best friend.
Ellie would thrive in a home where she’s showered with affection and attention. She’s a social little girl who thrives on companionship and would do best in a home with an individual or family (older children are preferred to avoid any tail-pulling or rough handling) who works from home or active retirees who can offer her the love and care she deserves.
We'd like to place Ellie in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young girl whose self-esteem will fly high while she masters her skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Ellie has been fully vetted. She is healthy, up to date on her vaccines, and spayed.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.

An Adoption Application and an Adoption Contract must be completed before any dog can begin their one week foster. Our average adoption fee is $695. This amount serves to cover vetting, spay/neuter, all vaccinations, temperament testing, transport, a microchip, harness, food, and treats.
Our dogs come from Texas, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and rural Colorado.

Pets are transported from the southern states every week. Almost 100% of the time, the dogs are spoken for as a result of adoption applications that can be referenced under Adoption at farfelsrescue.com. We study the applications. If the app indicates there is a match, followed up by a home visit and reference checks, the process moves to the next step. The adopter is committing to a one week foster (of course the dog can be returned at any time prior), and can then choose to finalize the adoption.

More about this rescue
We own a pet boutique named Farfel's Farm & Rescue on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. We have had the good fortune to find our niche in the Boulder community and experience success. We felt it very important to "pay it forward" in gratitude. We couldn't think of a better endeavor than to save dogs who were out of time in the southern states, yet had been identified with great temperaments. We dedicate our efforts to their good health and ultimate wonderful, permanent homes.
