Bernie Smokes is a gentle giant, whose hard days outside have turned to sweet snoozes indoors. This big tabby boy gets along well with other cats, including the three in his foster home. Though he has playful bouts, he is generally a mellow guy who is happy to spend time around you, while respecting your physical space. He is often found loafing nearby, eagerly awaiting the moment you give him a treat!
One of the rare rescues we find who is already neutered, we suspect Bernie was a store cat before he made his way to a backyard in Bed-Stuy. There, he was cared for over two years by neighbors, who eventually reached out to find him a home when he was injured. Now fully healed, Bernie is a shy boy, but once he gets to know you, he will happily rub against your legs and roll over to show his magnificent belly. More of a "beside-you" cat than a lap cat, he is looking for a home that will accept him for who he is and allow him to blossom with time.
Bernie is approximately 5 years old, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He is negative for FeLV and FIV. He has been dewormed and treated for fleas.
