Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Toby! This sweet, affectionate boy is happiest spending time with his people and soaking up all the love and attention he can get. According to his previous owner, Toby is "not a big walker" and prefers a mellow, relaxed lifestyle-making him a great match for a calm home where he can simply enjoy being by your side. He likes to approach new people at his own pace, but once he's comfortable, he makes human friends quickly and enjoys companionship. Toby isn't a fan of water, so bathing will require extra patience and a gentle approach. Toby would do best as the only pet in a dog-free, cat-free home. He's looking for a home with children ages 10 and up, with kids present to meet him. Due to reported conflicts with other dogs, Toby is not a candidate for dog parks or off-leash areas-but he more than makes up for that by wanting to stick close to his favorite humans. With the right home, Toby will reward his adopters with loyalty, affection, and lots of heartfelt companionship.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
