Meet Gracie! This affectionate girl radiates calm and comfort. She has a very gentle, soothing presence and loves to quietly follow her person from room to room, always nearby but never demanding. She especially enjoys lying near your feet and relaxing by your side, happy just to be close and share quiet time together.
This gorgeous calico has been a loving companion for many years, offering emotional warmth and steady companionship. She would be an ideal match for a quiet home with someone looking for a kitty who appreciates soft voices, gentle attention, and peaceful routines. Gracie does not have experience living with other cats or dogs, so we are not sure how she would do with a feline or canine companion.
Gracie is about 11 years old and weighs around 11 lbs. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and has great litter box habits. She is healthy other than a heart murmur, grade 3 of 6, and will be seen by a veterinary cardiologist prior to adoption.
This sweet girl is losing her home only because an elderly family member with severe cat allergies has recently moved in. Her devoted, loving family has tried everything to reduce allergy symptoms but, as sometimes happens, nothing is helping. We (FFOCAS) are helping Gracie’s family find her forever home safely.

The pets listed here are available through our facilitated rehoming program, Project Hope. We aim to help pet parents safely rehome their pets when they can no longer care for them. The adoption process is similar to what you'd experience with a typical rescue organization. Feel free to reach out to ask for more details. On a separate page, we list the cats available through our special needs cat rescue program.

More about this rescue
Frederick Friends of Our County Animal Shelter (FFOCAS) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit "friends" group helping our local county-run animal shelter. On this page, we list the pets available through our facilitated rehoming program, Project Hope. We aim to help pet parents safely rehome their pets when they can no longer care for them. Reducing intake at our partner shelter saves lives in two ways: (1) by ensuring that pets rehomed through Project Hope never enter the shelter and (2) by leaving more time and resources available at the shelter for those pets who do go to the shelter. In addition to Project Hope, we have our Cats with Character program, through which we take in primarily special needs kitties who are not doing well at our partner shelter, and Brooke's Medical Fund, through which we cover veterinary costs for shelter pets. Check out our website for more information!
