Carolina Red is a sweet little Shih Tzu weighing around 10 pounds, and her constantly wagging tail tells you everything you need to know about her happy spirit. She absolutely loves attention and is very affectionate with her foster mom. At bedtime, she prefers to sleep right next to her and will make sure to get up close—sometimes nose-to-nose—to collect a proper round of love and pets before drifting off.
Carolina is great with other dogs and enjoys both quiet companionship and playful fun. She’s often found curled up beside another dog in a shared dog bed, but she also loves to play, chase, and roll around on the floor with her canine friends. She’s been good with kids and enjoys being part of a lively, loving household.
She rides fairly well in the car, though she does get a bit anxious and prefers to sit in your lap for reassurance. Carolina came from a puppy mill, though you would hardly know it—until a man starts to speak, at which point she becomes anxious. We do believe this is something she can work through with time, patience, and positive experiences, but it’s important for adopters to be aware of.
Carolina does not know how to walk on a leash, so a secure physical fenced yard is required. She will also need frequent brushing and professional grooming every 6 weeks to keep her coat healthy and comfortable.
Carolina’s adoption fee is $400. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines. She is located in Decatur, IL.

An approved application is required before meet and greets. All family members must be present, and adopters must travel to Decatur to meet and adopt—no transportation is provided.
