My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**AVAILABLE FROM FOSTER**

Hello world! My name is Skelly. I'm 13 years old and I am looking for a patient and loving home with no other animals to live out my golden years.

Back in October, I was found as a stray out in Saginaw. A kind person brought me to Animal Allies and my journey began. It was immediately obvious that I had been out on my own for quite some time; I was clearly older, very scared, and underweight. After some tests, we found out that I also have hyperthyroidism and will need lifelong medication. It was clear that I wanted attention and love, but I would still get scared and overstimulated when people tried to pet me - occasionally leading to a lash out (swatting and nipping). On the other hand, I would also get sad when people would try to leave my room, and I would go after their legs to stop them and get them to stay with me.

This behavior can be off-putting to some, so staff sent me to a foster home to see how I would do in a home environment instead of the shelter. While in foster I've really come out of my shell and have been having such a fun time. Even though I'm 13 years old, I still LOVE to play! My foster introduced me to feathered wand toys and I go crazy for them - I run and leap as if I'm still a kitten! I also love looking out windows, getting yummy treats, and more than anything being around my person/people. I'm a total lap cat and want to always be around you, even if just passively. I'm still very much a princess however and will get frustrated with you if I'm not getting enough attention.
At first, I would let my foster know my frustration by giving nips, but she's been teaching me that there are better ways to ask for love. I'm most comfortable only being pet on my head and ears, but I love to rub up on people and pet them! When I get worked up and bitey, my foster just calmly says "nooo" and I'll stop and go back to rubbing on her. I'm definitely looking for a home with humans who understand cat body language and have the patience to work with me. Once I trust you, I really am the sweetest little lady! I have the best purr, enjoy snuggles, and am so much fun to be with!

I hope there is someone out there with a heart full of love and patience that is willing to give me the adoring home I've been longing for!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Animal Allies has variable adoption fees. A higher adoption fee does not mean that we value a particular animal over another; it is simply a matter of supply and demand. Animals that are in higher demand and are adopted quickly have higher adoption fees, which then create a financial legacy for the animals that stay in our care for a longer period of time.

CAT ADOPTION FEES
Cat and kitten fees range from $25 to $255. Please see the individual pet descriptions for detailed adoption fees and information. Feline adoption fees include: microchip and registration, medical exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying/neutering, fecal exam, and feline leukemia/FIV testing.

DOG ADOPTION FEES
The adoption fees for dogs and puppies range from $75 to $525. Please see the animal descriptions for individual adoption fees. Fees for dogs are based on a number of factors such as age, size, breed, or temperament. Canine adoption fees include: microchip and registration, medical exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying/neutering, fecal exam, flea and tick treatments, and heartworm testing.

Animal Allies accepts cash, money orders, and VISA/MC/Discover. Adoption fees are subject to a Duluth sales tax rate of 8.875%. As a convenience for Duluth residents we are able to assist with your license application at the time of adoption. The City of Duluth pet licenses are available for $12.50 per year. Hermantown licenses are available at the time of adoption for a $12 fee. License fees are in addition to adoption fees.

ADOPTION FEE DISCOUNTS
Pets for the Elderly: Animal Allies receives grant funding from a nationwide program that encourages seniors to adopt companion animals. All adopters age 60 or older receive a $50 discount on any Animal Allies adoption fee.

Buddy Program: When adopting two cats at once, the total adoption fee will be reduced by $25. If adopting two dogs or a dog and a cat, the total adoption fees will be reduced by $50.
