Here's what the humans have to say about me:
🐾 Meet Connor:
Connor is a 4yr male Blenheim King Charles Cavalier Spaniel who was surrendered by a commercial breeder because he is "too fat and lazy to breed"
He was close to 40lbs when he arrived, and could not manage stairs, but
Connor has truly blossomed in his foster home, losing extra pounds, building new muscle tone with his high quality diet and exercising with joy!
Connor is now down to 33lbs, much larger than the Cavalier size that most people think of, and would LOVE to have a canine companion in his forever home. He is an angel with other dogs, happily playing, snuggling and even side by side with his chewies with no resource guarding at all
We are arranging a visit with a cat to be sure he is cat friendly as well, which I'm sure he will be, he truly is darn near perfect with such a sweet temperament
View more photos and videos in his album here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.835991429051485&type=3
Energy Level: Medium
Affectionate, Smart, and so very sweet
If you’re looking for a dog who balances outdoor exploration with world-class napping, Connor is your guy! Connor is a social butterfly who believes every person and dog that he meets is a new best friend. He is currently mastering the art of the "zoomie" in his foster home—especially when he gets to race up hills in his fenced yard and let his ears fly in the wind.
Home Life & Habits
House-Training Hero: Connor is 100% house-trained! He even has a signature move: he will stand in the doorway and give you a polite "stare" when he needs to go out.
Someone home often who can provide: Structure and boundaries. Consistent training, Supervision, Plenty of mental and physical exercise will be ideal for Connor's needs.
Lifelong Commitment: Connor is seeking a forever home able to meet his needs for the lifelong journey ahead. *Based on his life expectancy of 15+yrs, AND larger body/weight, he is not a suitable match for older seniors. He needs a family able to carry him potentially as he ages, and our goal for every dog is to be able to live a full active life in their forever home without ever having to be rehomed or having their needs neglected.
Our priority is long-term stability and well-being for each dog in one forever home.
Crate Savvy: He settles beautifully in his crate at night. He might give a tiny whine at 7:00 AM to let you know he’s awake, but he’s a total pro who sleeps through the night.
The "Sock Bandit": Connor has a soft spot for... well, soft things. He loves to "borrow" socks, tea towels, and blankets. He’s easily redirected to his actual toys, but a tidy home (or high laundry baskets) will be his best friend and necessary to keep him safely away from anything he shouldn't have. For this reason he is seeking a home without young children to ensure he doesn't accidentally get into something left around.
Foodie at Heart: Connor is very food-motivated, which is fabulous for training, but his new family will need to be committed and attentive to his ideal weight goals to keep him healthy!
He’s currently enjoying a healthy balanced raw diet and is learning that "Sit" equals "Snack."
Friends & Skills
Other Dogs: Connor loves other dogs. He takes great cues from his foster brother and would thrive in a home with a canine companion to show him the ropes. He is becoming mischievous in sometimes trying to steal toys from his foster brother, so a dog that does not resource guard is necessary while Connor learns his manners.
People: He is a professional greeter. He’s currently working on "four on the floor" (not jumping) when people come over, but it’s only because he’s so excited to love you.
Leash Work: The leash is a bit of a mystery to Connor—he tends to stand still and wonder why he's attached to you! However, he doesn't pull and is gaining confidence with every walk, assisted by his canine foster brother helping him learn that walks equal adventures and good smells.
Training: He has mastered Sit and Leave It. He’s currently "considering" the concept of Stay and Wait. He’s a smart boy who truly wants to please his people and will thrive with continued training.
The Perfect Match
Connor would be happiest with:
A fenced yard where he can explore and do his "perimeter checks."
An active family who will take him for walks and sniffy adventures
A dog sibling to play and snuggle with
A family who loves to snuggle—he is a world-class cuddler who just wants to be near his humans.
Good with Dogs: Yes, loves them!
Good with Cats: Stay tuned for updates but likely yes
Leash Trained: In progress (beginner)
Strengths/areas they have improved on: He is housebroken - quickly. Learned sit from observing his foster brother. He is a very smart dog and wants your approval and affection.
Transportation-any motion sickness or anxiety in vehicles? He doesn’t love going for rides but doesn’t get sick or anxious.
Health: Shiny coat, clear ears, and ongoing progress on his weight-loss journey!
He arrived with badly matted fur, infected ears and obese, but he is rocking his rebirth as a healthy happy boy.
Connor is fully vetting including microchip, vaccinations, deworming/flea/tick/heartworm protection, has been neutered and had a full dental.
Handling: Connor has no trouble being handled and loves having his ears cleaned. He likes to be brushed and is happy to let you touch his feet, teeth, tail.
Foster Mom’s Note: "He is a very smart boy who wants your approval and affection. Watching his ears fly when he runs is the highlight of my day!"
Dog doors are not permitted and all pools must be fully fenced for safety
Adoption fee $850 + HST incl: Thorough vet exams, bloodwork, Vaccinations, deworming/fecal sample, neuter, dental, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention during foster care
Our adoption fees do not by any means cover the costs incurred by our rescue including rising vet expenses, food, supplies and transportation
