History: Denali was returned to rescue recently due to no fault of his own when his adopter had a life change and could no longer offer Denali what they felt he deserves. He is settling back into rescue and doing well in his foster home as he waits patiently to find his forever home soon!
A Note from the Foster: Denali is a not-so-little light in our lives! He is so goofy and it’s been a delight to watch him learn about the world. He is curious about everything, but often very well-mannered.
Within a few days of having structure and adequate walks, Denali melted right into our routine. His energy level isn’t very high; he’s happy to walk for a mile or so, come home and play with a ball, and then will settle once put in his crate.
He sleeps through the night in his crate as well and can settle and nap outside of his crate, but needs a close eye because this poor boy has a very fast metabolism and needs to do his business shortly after eating or drinking! He needs frequent potty breaks when he’s out of his crate. He’s had a couple accidents in the house but is improving every day.
He does have some separation anxiety in the crate. He does beautifully if someone is in the same room with him, but can cry if left alone. Slowly but surely will make progress on this front.
Denali is also very good with our resident dog, who is of similar breed and age. They can get a little too wild together during playtime sometimes, but love each other all the same. They share toys with each other and both are happier walking together than apart.
His leash manners are a work in progress, but nothing too bad. He starts the walk off pulling a bit but usually settles down to a nice pace halfway through.
Denali has been around our resident cat. While he respects her space, he is still a little more interested in her than I would like. Could be a fit for a cat home on a case-by-case basis.
Denali is unlikely to be a good fit for homes with young children until he learns how big he is! He is a gangly teenager with a poor sense of where his own feet are half the time. He doesn’t jump up often, but when he tries to get into your lap it’s a sight to behold.
This boy is going to be a VERY fun and smart dog for the right person or family.
