My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Currently, Zemma is in Korea, but will fly to SF upon adoption.

Background:
Zemma was rescued this past summer from a city pound in Milyang, Korea through our Save 100 Dogs campaign. She has been staying at our boarding house since then and has been sharing space comfortably with other dogs.

Personality and Socialization:
Zemma is a gentle, social, and friendly girl with a calm and easygoing nature. Her energy level is moderate, and she gets along well with dogs of many different sizes. With people she is kind, affectionate, and warm.

She is not shy around strangers and often walks up on her own to say hello at the shelter. She enjoys being close, loves attention, and is happy to relax beside her humans. She has no experience with cats.

Behaviour:
Zemma handles car rides, grooming, and bath time without trouble. She is still building confidence, but she stays calm and lets her person guide her through it. She likes going for walks and, although she sometimes stops to explore, she follows along nicely.

She has been quiet, sweet, and attentive. She can use indoor pee pads when needed but also potties outdoors. She has not shown any destructive behaviors.

Health and Diet:
Zemma is fully vetted. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and kept on regular parasite prevention. She eats dry kibble and has no known allergies or special dietary needs. When she was rescued, she tested positive for Babesia and Hepatozoon from tick bites, but she completed her treatments and is now healthy and ready to join her forever family.

Ideal Home:
Zemma is a very lovely girl who is friendly, gentle, and playful. She gets along well with almost everyone thanks to her easygoing nature and good social skills. We hope to find a family who can spend plenty of time with their dog, so she is not left alone for long hours.

A person or family who enjoys a dog companion and can include her in their daily life would be perfect for her. Whoever adopts Zemma will be truly lucky.

More about this rescue

Free Korean Dogs is a registered charity founded in 2015 with the mission to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever-loving homes for dogs saved from the Korean dog meat trade.

We divide our mission across three basic pillars: rescue, adopt, and engage. Since 2015, we’ve made huge advances in all three areas, shutting down three dog meat farm operations, facilitating the adoption of 1,800 rescue dogs, and launching Freedom Walk, our annual event to raise public awareness about the Korean dog meat trade:

RESCUE
Our organization has made significant strides in rescuing dogs from the dog meat trade, high-kill shelters and other high-risk conditions in Korea. We shut down dog meat farms and liberated over 500 dogs from unbearable suffering and despair.

ADOPT
Through our unwavering commitment, we have found forever-loving homes for more than 1,800 dogs rescued from brutal circumstances. Our dedicated team works tirelessly to rehabilitate these animals and find them a new life filled with love and care.

ENGAGE
Our mission extends beyond rescue and adoption; we are dedicated to building a compassionate community. Through educational campaigns and events, we engage with individuals and organizations to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion.
