Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dom is a sweet, affectionate heart-stealer who bonds quickly and deeply with his humans. He’s a true family guy who loves being with his people and prefers everyone together whenever possible. At night, you’ll find him happily snoozing on the couch—crate life is not his vibe.
Dom is calm, gentle, and wonderfully quiet (we haven’t heard a single bark!), though when left alone he may treat you to a brief, very melodic howl before settling in. He’s unfazed by outside noises and carries himself with an easygoing confidence.
He loves his walks and, like a true hound, can pull a bit—he’s working on it and already improving with guidance and a harness. Dom is very interested in other dogs and can be a little macho with dogs his size or bigger, but he’s not reactive or aggressive—just confident and curious. He’s untested with cats.
Car rides make him a little anxious, but with reassurance (and a human nearby), he does just fine. What really makes Dom shine is his playful, affectionate nature—he’s not into toys, but lives for interactive play, human touch, and top-tier cuddles.
Dom is a loving, loyal, easygoing companion who would thrive in a home ready for affection, connection, and a true cuddle superstar.
Adopters have 30 days of free access to 1-on-1 text and email support from trainers at Petcademy to help make every pet's transition into their new home as smooth as possible. All dogs available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and are current on all vaccinations. Please email dogs@henricohumane.org for more information.

Potential adopters are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Since animals live in foster homes, we get to know their personality and temperament. The adoption process allows us to learn about you, so that we can help find the perfect match for your home.
ADOPTION PROCESS
After finding a cat or dog that you are interested in, you'll need to complete an adoption application either online (https://henricohumane.org) or at an adoption stand. An adoption coordinator will review your application to ensure your situation matches the needs of the animal you're interested in. If completing an application online, please note, every question must be answered on the application for it to be reviewed by an adoption coordinator. As part of the review process, we'll request references. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, it may take up to 48 hours for an adoption coordinator to contact you.
ADOPTION FEES:
All of our adoption fee amounts can be found here:
https://www.henricohumane.org/adopt
The adoption fee covers the cost of shots, spay/neuter, microchipping and worm/flea treatments.

More about this rescue
Henrico Humane Society is an all-volunteer, foster-based,
non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats from
across Central Virginia and places them in loving, forever
homes.
HHS has saved hundreds of animals each year since
1991. Many of the dogs and cats we rescue come from
shelters in rural areas where they have fewer adoption
opportunities. The majority of the animals in our care live
with foster parents until they find a permanent home.
We don't have a shelter and most of our animals live in foster homes until they're adopted, which allows us to get to know their personality and temperament. Applicants are carefully screened to ensure we find the right forever home for the dogs and cats we rescue. Our adoption process allows us to learn about potential adopters so we can help find the perfect matcher their home.
