My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack Black is a sweet young catten boy who came to us with his sister Jilly Bean. He was so scared at first, of people, other cats and loud noises etc. Just look at him now! He is confident, plays with the other cats, loves his sister and has become quite the cuddle bug. Loud noises still scare him a bit, just like they do most cats. He loves playing chase and follow the leader, dangly toys, laser lights, climbing the cat tree, and any toy mouse he can carry in his mouth, and of course those silly plastic springs. He eats nicely with little mess, and shares well, quietly waiting his turn for treats. His litter box manners are perfect. At adoption events he seems fascinated by friendly children but is a little wary of dogs.
Jack’s dream home would be with his sister Jill, a warm bed, good food, a big covered litter box, scratching pads and post, lots of toys. a cat tree by a window (for bird and squirrel monitoring) and most importantly, laps for snuggling and gentle petting. Sound like the kitty you’re searching for?

More about this rescue

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). Visit our website to learn more about us at heartofamericahs.org.
